Planning permission granted!
Many thanks to all those who wrote to support our application for planning permission for the extension to St. Johns. The Council received 65 letters of support and the Committee passed the permission by 6 votes to one. Our thanks also to Councillor Sandra Hillier who spoke in favour of the proposal at the meeting.

ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONER AND ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING

Sunday 18th April 2010 7 -9 pm following Worship at St John’s Church at 6.30pm
All members on the electoral roll or resident in the parish and on a Register of Local Government Electors are warmly invited to attend the above meetings at which we will be appointing our Churchwardens, their Deputies, PCC members and Sides persons for 2010/2011. (Our 4 Deanery Synod Representatives continue in office until April 2011).

Nomination forms are displayed on the notice boards of both churches. At the APCM there will also be presentation of Annual Reports on the proceedings of the PCC and the Deanery Synod, the Fabric of each Church, the activities of church and uniformed groups, changes in the electoral roll and submission of audited financial statements and Treasurer’s Report. Please come and join us.

Now is an ideal time to join the church ‘electoral roll’, ie become a member of St Mary’s and St John’s. The official notice about this follows – you can pick up a form at the back of either church.

Notice is hereby given that the Church Electoral Roll of the above parish
will be revised by the Parochial Church Council beginning
21st March 2010 and ending on 4th April 2010.

After such Revision, a copy of the roll will forthwith be exhibited on,
or near to, the principal door of St. Mary’s & St. John’s Church for inspection.

Under the Church Representation Rules any persons are entitled to have
their names entered on the roll, if they:-
(i) are baptised
(ii) are members of the Church of England or of any Church in
communion with the Church of England,
(iii) are sixteen or over,
(iv) are resident in the parish, or, not being resident in the
parish, have habitually attended public worship in the parish
during the six months before the date of application for enrolment,
(v) have signed a form of application for enrolment.

Forms of application for enrolment can be obtained from the undersigned
and the parish churches, and should be returned, if possible, in time
for the Revision.

Any error discovered in the electoral roll should at once be reported
to the undersigned or clergy.

The Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Reading, has been nominated by Her Majesty the Queen as Bishop of Chelmsford in succession to The Right Reverend John Gladwin. He will be the tenth Bishop of Chelmsford.

Bishop Stephen said: “I was born and brought up in Essex, and it is still the place I think of as home. Now I have been invited to return to this large, diverse and richly varied diocese to serve as your bishop. It is an immense privilege.

Bishop Laurie added: “We are delighted that Bishop Stephen Cottrell is to become the new Diocesan Bishop of Chelmsford. Bishop Stephen is an exceptional man, whose abiding concern is that we all catch that glimpse of the wonder of God which can change our lives. “He is man of prayer who has a shrewd eye for the important issues of the day.  His books are always challenging and delightful, and he will bring new insights about how we should respond to God’s love and justice amidst the world’s challenges.   He is family man of great warmth and charm, and we look forward to learning from him and working with him here in Essex and East London.”

Daisy Palmer is 6 and lives in Langdon Hills.

Tracy Palmer, Karen Allwood, Lisa Pohl and Joe Odd are running the 2010 Brentwood Half Marathon on Sunday 21st March for PORT (Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust), in support of Tracy’s 6 year old Daughter Daisy who suffers from Chronic Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction (CIPs)

Daisy is currently in Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel where she is receiving further treatment for this rare and very serious condition. You can read her story, and some more about PORT here: http://www.port-charity.org.uk/pages/Daisys%20Story.htm

Daisy, like many other sufferers, is currently unable to eat anything orally, and is instead entirely reliant on being fed intravenously, and will remain this way whilst much needed research continues.

If you can, we would be most grateful if you could spread awareness of this rare and very serious illness. The more people that know and learn about it, can only help to further research ways of treating and managing CIPs.
