Steve shaves off his beard for Hope HIV

Many witnessed, during the services, Steve shave off his beard, explaining how he had been given a £10 note and then challenged to turn that into £100 for the charity Hope HIV. In fact it became over £600!

Here are some photos:

Above: Steve with half of his bear removed. He did half at St Mary’s, and the other half later the same morning at St John’s.

Above: Beard-shaving in progress.

Above: The finished result.

Note from Linda Spencer:
It’s always difficult when two people from the same parish need to find different ways in taking up a challenge like this without putting more financial pressure on the same individuals.
So, with that in mind I thought I would ask the congregation to give in a different way – through getting rid of things we don’t need. I intend to invest my £10.00 in a pitch at the Marillac Nursing Home car boot sale on Saturday 19th June to raise funds in order to support some of the millions of children who have been orphaned or affected by AIDS in Africa. So, if you would like to clear your attic or garage of any ‘car boot’ saleable items please pass them onto me as soon as you can.
I hope you feel able to support me in this challenge because by working together we can make a difference.
You can find out more about Hope HIV here.
Many thanks,
Linda Spencer

Christian Aid Week

Christian Aid Week takes place this week (May 9th – 15th). People from St Mary’s and St John’s will be out and about delivering envelopes and collecting them in again a few days later.

What is Christian Aid Week? In summary: seven amazing days of fundraising, action and prayer. It’s a time when communities all over the country get together to raise funds to make real and lasting changes in the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. It has now become the country’s biggest ‘house-to-house’ collection – with 300,000 volunteers going from door to door every year delivering envelopes and picking them back up from householders in the week. Find out more here.
