Yeehaw! – Grab your partner

Nightingales and Men’s Group – Saturday 9 February was Linedancing night!  70 of us had a really good night dancing to The Dixieliners! We would like to thank them for giving their services free. The chip and Fin provided the fish and chips and a big thank you to Bob and John for collecting it. I would also like to thank my other helpers Wendy, Sue, Barbara, Diane, and Pat.

Ash Wednesday

Our Ash Wednesday service is on 13th February, at 8.00 pm at St Mary’s.

This meditative service includes the traditional “imposition of ashes” and communion. It marks the beginning of Lent, a period of penitence and spiritual preparation for Easter. All are welcome.

Lent course

Lent course 2013: Not a Tame Lion starts Tuesday 19th February.

Following the success of 2012’s course based on The King’s Speech we will be using another course by the same author, Hilary Brand. Not a Tame Lion is a five-week Lent course based around the writings of C S Lewis and the films The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Shadowlands. The course aims to bring ideas from C S Lewis’s writing to a wider contemporary audience. In doing so it looks at issues including suffering, God’s absence, the gift of the present moment, heaven, judgement, and the force of evil. Each film clip is related to one of the sayings of Jesus as found in the gospels.

The course will start 7.45 for 8pm to 9.30 pm on Tuesdays from 19th February to 19th March at St. Johns. It will be helpful if those coming will sign up on the sheets at St Marys and St John’s so that we have an idea how many books to buy.

Do you like those round robins people send out in December? Often, they’re tucked inside Christmas cards, frequently they’re emailed instead of cards. They list the wonderful achievements of the sender’s family in the year gone by and sometimes the anticipated triumphs in the years to come.
