Walk for STM

From Tony Dunhill:

I am again taking part in a 10 mile sponsored walk THIS SATURDAY, 9th October, in support of the Basildon Schools Team Ministry. The walk starts at St Paul’s Church, Ballards Walk, and we’ll visit about 14 other Basildon churches along the route.

I was able to raise £190 on the walk last year, and I’d like to invite you to sponsor me for this worthy cause. I support the Schools Team Ministry because of the tremendous work they do in helping the youth of Basildon see that Jesus Christ is so relevant to their needs. It really is an investment in our future citizens. If you’d like to support the STM please see or ring me, and I’ll sign you up. (I’ll collect the money from you later.) Thank you!

Christian Aid Week

Christian Aid Week takes place this week (May 9th – 15th). People from St Mary’s and St John’s will be out and about delivering envelopes and collecting them in again a few days later.

What is Christian Aid Week? In summary: seven amazing days of fundraising, action and prayer. It’s a time when communities all over the country get together to raise funds to make real and lasting changes in the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. It has now become the country’s biggest ‘house-to-house’ collection – with 300,000 volunteers going from door to door every year delivering envelopes and picking them back up from householders in the week. Find out more here.

Parish Weekend Away: June 2010

The next Parish Weekend Away is planned for 25/27th June 2010.

What is a Parish Weekend Away?

  • An opportunity for the whole family to get away from the rigours of life (well, for a weekend) and join together with Church family to draw nearer to God.
  • To seek God’s guidance in all matters of life, private and corporate.
  • Fellowship through prayer, worship and fun.

Building on the great success of the 2007 Parish Weekend at Ashburnham Place in East Sussex, it has been decided to revisit the same venue in June 2010. And although it may seem a long time off, the reality is that before we know it we will all be wondering what happened to 2009! Therefore to get the ball rolling we need to have a good idea of those interested.

The price (2010 not yet fixed) should be around £125 pp plus £13-15 supplement for single rooms and discounts for children. This includes all meals plus an organised teaching programme for the whole family.

If you are interested or would like more details please contact Steve Spencer or Nicky Legon.
