First steps

First Steps is a group for parents/carers and babies/toddlers that meets on Mondays during school term times from 1.15 to 2.45 at St. John’s Church. It is a great introduction to St John’s and is a group for parents/carers and babies and toddlers that meets for play, singing, story, craft and friendship. We hope this group helps to welcome and make people feel part of the local community as well as make new friends. First Steps gives us all a chance to get away from our homes and meet with others for friendship and support. It allows our children to interact with each other at a young age, which helps them learn to share, and play together.

First Steps will be open again at St John’s on Mon 10th September 2007. Every other week we either have a ‘Coffee’ session or a ‘Service’ session. This first week is a Coffee session where the kids can play, sing etc and then the following week it changes to a Service session. This is when Colin does songs with the children where they have musical instruments and he tells a story where the children help by placing figures etc on a felt story board. It’s really good fun and everybody joins in and has a great time. We also then do some craft which is related to the Bible story Colin has told.

We always start each week at First Steps by giving out the notice sheets and then briefly mentioning any forthcoming events in the church. We also provide a termly news letter of our own which gives details of events such as Alpha, the Ladies Breakfast etc.
