Weddings

St. Mary’s Church offers a beautiful location for a wedding ceremony.

Some points to consider:

1) Our policy depends upon whether both or either of you live within our parish. You can find a map of our parish here – the link will open in a new window.

If you both live in our parish

You must be resident within our parish at the time your banns are called. Should you move out of the parish before that time you may be required to make alternative arrangements for your wedding.

If only one of you lives in our parish

Whoever lives within our parish at the time of booking the wedding must remain resident within the parish at the time your banns are called. Should you move out of the parish before that time you may be required to make alternative arrangements for your wedding. As one of you does not reside in the Parish of Langdon Hills, you will need to obtain a Banns Certificate from the vicar of the parish in which you live. (You can find your local parish here – link will open in a new window.) It is important that you sort this out early on, as it will take a minimum of four weeks to generate a Banns Certificate. Without a Banns Certificate for those living outside the Parish of Langdon Hills, I am unable by law to conduct the ceremony. It is your responsibility to obtain this document and ensure that I receive it at least seven days prior to the wedding.

If neither of you live in our parish

If you both live outside the Parish of Langdon Hills your names will need to be entered on the church’s electoral roll.

To qualify for entry on the electoral roll you need to be baptised and regularly attend St Mary’s and/or St John’s on at least 50% of Sundays over a six-month period. Please ensure that you date and sign the Wedding Couples Attendance Book every time you attend either St Mary’s and/or St John’s. If you are not baptised we can discuss the matter more fully.

We look forward to welcoming you for public worship Sunday by Sunday. Details of activities in the parish are available on this site and we hope you will join whole heartedly in parish activities during the months leading up to your marriage.

At this stage we can book the date of your wedding, but this cannot be confirmed until your name has been entered on the Electoral Roll.

2) We run a Marriage Preparation course for all couples who are to be married at St Mary’s or St John’s. Please ensure you make yourselves available for the course. We will notify you of your course date and time as soon as possible.

3) The current list of marriage fees is below. These may vary as a result of the Church of England fee structure as well as local circumstances. Please note the fees payable are applicable to the wedding date, and not the date on which the wedding was booked. I shall require your payment in full at the time of the wedding rehearsal.

4) We will need to discuss hymns, bells, choir, flowers, organ etc. Please contact me to arrange a suitably convenient time as soon as you are ready.

5) At the wedding rehearsal I shall require as a minimum the bride, bridegroom, bride’s father, best man and bridesmaids (unless they are very young). Of course, any other interested parties are welcome!

6) We have no objection to the ceremony being video recorded, but this can only be done on the strict understanding that your operator complies with our positioning requirements and remains stationary during the proceedings.

Please note that no flash photography is permitted inside the church until after the signing of the register.

7) We hope all the details of your wedding turn out as we have planned them, but unfortunately we are unable to guarantee this as we are dependant on the goodwill and availability of all the people involved. However, having said this, we do have a long record of everything working out just as you would expect or even better.

8 ) If for any reason details of your wedding have to be changed, especially a change of address, or your wedding has to be cancelled/postponed, please let me know, in writing, as soon as possible.

Contact the Parish Office if you have any further questions.
