It is Good to Affirm Motherhood

This month there is a day when we officially declare that we think mothers are incredible.

And for those of you who don’t think this is, or could be you, let me just say;

It is a day when we also recognise the importance of mothering, and personally, I don’t think you have to have birthed a child to be a mother…

MICHAELMAS FAYRE – Sat 26 Sep 2015

Nine months ago we started planning The Michaelmas Fayre.  I advertised for anyone who could make anything to meet at my house on a cold January afternoon, and I was amazed that 12 people turned up and others who couldn’t come to the meeting also offered to make things. So we all starting knitting sewing, cooking and generally gathering things together.  There were more meetings and more gathering and finally we came to the day to price all our items.  We took over the coffee bar at St John’s and had lunch together then got on with sorting out how much to charge for our handmade items.

Visit to RHS Hyde Hall

On July 16th a group set out by coach from St. John’s and went on a lovely day out at one of our favourite places, RHS Gardens at Hyde Hall. This was organised by Julian for Rendezvous. We enjoy Hyde Hall at any time of year and are frequent visitors, but it was a special treat to be driven by coach. Most of the party were new to it so could enjoy the lovely gardens with fresh eyes.

Rendezvous Ploughmans

In view of the success of the first ploughman’s lunch at St John’s earlier in the year, a second one was held on Saturday 20th June, it was very well attended with 46 people from both churches. The food was varied and plentiful and conversation just flowed judging by the amount of chatter. The dessert was homemade apple crumble with proper custard and it was worth attending for this alone – just like mum made.

Go-Karting at Rayleigh Stadium

On the 5 June we had a group of 13 drivers attend the Nightingales and Men’s Group evening at Raleigh Go-Karting Stadium which was greatly enjoyed by all.

We initially had a drivers briefing about safety and unfair or dangerous driving and penalties that would result from the latter followed by a 5 lap practice session for everybody then by 15 very competitively driven heats each of 5 laps from which points were awarded.   Read the rest of this entry »
